Though harvesting of paddy has started in Howrah region, the farmers are in trouble by cultivating Bri-28 paddy. After visiting the Howrah area and talking to farmers, it is known that there is a danger of landslides coming down from the upstream. Bri-28 rice has been cultivated in about 43 thousand hectares of land. Farmers cultivated early variety Bri-28 paddy in Howrah area of Netrakona to avoid early floods. Locals said that their foreheads were burnt due to excessive hailstorm and most of the paddy fields were damaged this year. Now they have to face losses. Due to this, the farmers are very worried about food and loan repayment for the whole year. Even though the farmers were affected by cultivating the same paddy in the previous year, the rice production of Howrah region has again suffered due to their ignorance and the indifference and negligence of the field level officials of the agriculture department. Experts say the Boro season starts in the winter months of November (Kartika-Agrahayana). And the last is in April-May (Baishakh-Jaishtha) month of extreme heat. Temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius or more are intolerable for rice. If the temperature prevails for 1-2 hours at the time of flowering, the rice becomes excessively damp. According to the sources of the District Agriculture Extension Directorate, the target of boro cultivation in Netrakona this year was 1 lakh 84 thousand 470 hectares of land. One lakh 84 thousand 735 hectares have been cultivated. An additional 265 hectares of land was planted with boro beyond the target. The potential rice production target from boro crop in the district is 11 lakh 84 thousand 563 metric tons. Boro cultivation in Howrah has been cultivated on 40 thousand 970 hectares of land. A target of two lakh 67 thousand 535 metric tons of paddy production has been set from these lands. The current market value of which is about 749 crores 9 lakhs 80 thousand taka. And in the entire district, about 43 thousand hectares of land were cultivated this year of early variety Bri-28 rice. Sanjit Sarkar of Ballabpur village of Khaliajuri upazila said, I cultivated Bri-28 paddy in about 25 plots of land. Most of my land is paddy sown. Now how do I proceed? How to support the family. I am very worried. Janu Chowdhury, a farmer of Mendipur village, said that in addition to the BR-28 paddy being sprayed, the paddy field has been damaged due to recent hailstorm. The cost I spent on boro cultivation will not rise. I don’t know how to go on for the next year. Jamal Miah, a farmer of Gobindshri village of Madan upazila, said that where there was 7-8 maunds of paddy in each harvested land, there were 2-3 maunds of paddy. When asked why he was cutting paddy despite being a leopard, farmer Dulal Mia said that he was cutting paddy to collect fodder for the cows. I asked my rice harvesters to take me. Just give me straw. Rahmat Ali, a farmer of Jagannathpur village in the same upazila, said that we are selling raw paddy at 800 to 850 taka in the field. When asked, agriculturist Dilip Sen said, pollination will not be done properly due to heat shock, it will be hindered. This time because of the long period of hot temperatures, a heat web spread over a large area of the country on April 4, burning it up. Instantly the kernels of the rice withered, the leaves withered.; Due to which the plants which were in flowering state at that time were damaged. The agriculture department has not done the necessary campaign to prevent the cultivation of Bri-28 paddy. As a result, farmers are facing losses by making the same mistakes again and again. Mohammad Nuruzzaman, deputy director of the Directorate of Agricultural Extension, Netrekona, said that harvesting of Bri-28 jad rice of the early variety has started in the Hawar region of Netrekona. Paddy harvesting will start in full swing next week. Leopard appeared in Bri-28 paddy in Howrah. Various trainings and necessary advice have been given to increase the awareness among the farmers about the application of pesticides at the beginning of the season. Farmers have also been discouraged from cultivating this rice in various yard meetings and exchange meetings. Instead of Bri-28 it is suggested to cultivate rice of Bri 88 variety
