The Director General (DG) Brigadier General Md.  Mine Uddin of Fire Service and Civil Defence Department said that it will be proposed to reform the Fire Extinguishing Act-2003 to get magisterial powers.

He said, we can give notices and cases according to Fire Extinguishing Act-2003. The maximum sentence under this law is three years. It definitely needs to be renovated, I will undertake this task.

He said this in response to questions from reporters at the prize distribution ceremony of a debate competition at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) on Thursday (May 4) afternoon.

Debate for Democracy The shadow parliament organized debate competition to raise awareness about fire prevention.

Brigadier General Md. Main Uddin said that the Fire Extinguishing Act is in conflict with the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) building code. This too needs to be reformed. We call buildings above six floors high-rise buildings, but Rajuk calls buildings above 10 floors high-rise buildings. This information should be reformed. RAJUK has not banned the construction of any building. The law passed in 2022 is already outdated. We have to modify the BMDC code.

When asked about the action taken by the fire service authorities regarding the attack on the fire service office and vandalism in the fire incident in Bangabazar, he said that a case has been filed. The attackers have been identified. The law is in process. I don’t want to go into details about the pending matter.

He said, 14 cars were vandalized in the attack. Out of which the price of a car is 8 crores. We stand by people with these cars.
