Municipal Mayor Fazlur Rahman receiving the Environment Medal from the Prime Minister

Maulvibaja 24 Desk: Md. Fazlur Rahman, Mayor of Moulvibazar Municipality, received the National Environment Medal from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present as the chief guest and handed over the award to Alhaj Md Fazlur Rahman, Mayor of Moulvibazar Municipality in a colorful ceremony presided over by Minister of Forest, Environment and Climate Affairs Saber Hossain Chowdhury at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital Dhaka on June 5.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Affairs Farhana Ahmed gave a welcome speech on the occasion. Dipankar Talukder MP, President of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Climate Affairs also spoke.

It should be noted that this year, a total of 5 individuals and organizations including Moulvibazar Municipality were awarded the Environment Medal. National Environment Medal recipients and institutions are awarded with 22 (twenty-two) carat gold market value of 2 (two) tala weight and a check, crest and certificate of Rs.50,000 in cash.

Moulvibazar Municipality received this environmental medal in the environment conservation and pollution control category. Behind this is the well-planned exceptional initiative of the municipal mayor Alhaj Md Fazlur Rahman. To keep Moulvibazar city free from harmful polythene, Moulvibazar Municipality decided to buy abandoned polythene from people with money. Polythene hats are installed for this purpose. Moulvibazar municipality buys sack after sack of polythene and plastic in this market.

Municipal Mayor Alhaj Md Fazlur Rahman inaugurated the polythene hut on July 9, 2023 at the mayor’s square. After this initiative started getting appreciation across the country. The most popular program broadcast on Bangladesh Television, Hanif Sanketer, etc., also aired a detailed report on the polythene huts of Moulvibazar Municipality.
